Blind Detection and Compensation of Camera Lens Geometric Distortions

This paper presents a blind detection and compensation technique for camera lens geometric distortions. The lens distortion introduces higher-order correlations in the frequency domain and in turn it can be detected using higher-order spectral analysis tools without assuming any specific calibration target. The existing blind lens distortion removal method only considered a single-coefficient radial distortion model. In this paper, two coefficients are considered to model approximately the geometric distortion. All the models considered have analytical closed-form inverse formulae.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, 2 table

Control of Networked Multiagent Systems with Uncertain Graph Topologies

Multiagent systems consist of agents that locally exchange information through a physical network subject to a graph topology. Current control methods for networked multiagent systems assume the knowledge of graph topologies in order to design distributed control laws for achieving desired global system behaviors. However, this assumption may not be valid for situations where graph topologies are subject to uncertainties either due to changes in the physical network or the presence of modeling errors especially for multiagent systems involving a large number of interacting agents. Motivating from this standpoint, this paper studies distributed control of networked multiagent systems with uncertain graph topologies. The proposed framework involves a controller architecture that has an ability to adapt its feed- back gains in response to system variations. Specifically, we analytically show that the proposed controller drives the trajectories of a networked multiagent system subject to a graph topology with time-varying uncertainties to a close neighborhood of the trajectories of a given reference model having a desired graph topology. As a special case, we also show that a networked multi-agent system subject to a graph topology with constant uncertainties asymptotically converges to the trajectories of a given reference model. Although the main result of this paper is presented in the context of average consensus problem, the proposed framework can be used for many other problems related to networked multiagent systems with uncertain graph topologies.Comment: 14 pages, 2 figure

Supporting Documentation of Informal Learning and Making from a Distance with Voicethread

    Get PDF
This best practices session and paper describes the incorporation of Voicethread as a tool for supporting design documentation of makerspace projects among graduate distance education students in a course on informal learning. All students successfully utilized the tool to present photographic and video evidence of design processes with oral annotations, and received clarifications and feedback from peers. Students reported positive affordances of the tool in terms of marking up slides to communicate particular design decisions, sharing video as proof of successfully completing a particular make project and as exemplars of makers’ problem solving and thinking, documenting a linear process with media evidence as a preferred approach to written documentation for informal settings, and making comparative assessments across peer designs with the ability to question and clarify through interaction. The choice of asynchronous documentation versus synchronous collaboration is considered

Changes in U.S. family finances from 2004 to 2007: evidence from the Survey of Consumer Finances

    Get PDF
The Federal Reserve Board's Survey of Consumer Finances for 2007 provides insights into changes in family income and net worth since the 2004 survey. The survey shows that, over the 2004-07 period, the median value of real (inflation-adjusted) family income before taxes was little changed, while mean income climbed 8.5 percent. Unlike family income over this period, both median and mean net worth increased; the median rose 17.7 percent, and the mean rose 13.0 percent. This article reviews these and other changes in the financial condition of U.S. families, including developments in assets, liabilities, and debt payments.Consumer surveys ; Households - Economic aspects
